A. We want to ensure you are as prepared as possible for the Basic and Advanced Pilot Certificate Exams. The Online Drone Training can take anywhere from 1-4 hours, but this is done on your time, at your pace. You can log out anytime and pick up from where you left off next time. While we understand that time is important to you, we want to stress the importance of this material, both for the exam as well as for safe drone operations.

Q. How much does the Online Drone Training cost?

A. There is a one-time low payment of $49.00 for access to our online training portal for 30 days. If you need access to the practice exams after 30 days, you can subscribe for another 30 days for the low cost of $25.00.

Q. Can I take the Online Drone Training and practice exam at any time? Day or Night?

A. Yes. There are no restrictions as to when you can take the Online Drone Training or complete the quizzes and practice exam. Our website is online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year and is fully accessible from your computer, tablet or mobile device.

Q. What topics are covered in your Online Drone Training?

A. Our fully illustrated online drone training is broken down into chapters which includes an introduction to the process, an overview of current regulations, understanding airspace, exploring weather, operating your drone and decision making/emergency operations.

Q. How many questions are there in the chapter quizzes and what is the percentage required to pass?

A. All end-of-chapter quizzes have multiple choice visual questions. In order to move on to the next chapter of the online drone safety training, you are required to get 80% or higher.

Q. How many questions are on the practice exam and what is the percentage required to pass?

A. The practice exam has 35 multiple choice visual questions. In order to pass, you are required to get 80% or higher. Even after passing, you can access the practice exam again with new questions to continue your preparation.

Q. Are there penalties for operating a drone without having the Basic or Advanced Pilot License?

A. Yes, there are a range of fines that Transport Canada has put in place.

Fines for individuals

  • up to $1,000 for flying without a drone pilot certificate
  • up to $1,000 for flying unregistered or unmarked drones
  • up to $1,000 for flying where you are not allowed
  • up to $3,000 for putting aircraft and people at risk

Fines for corporations

  • up to $5,000 for flying without a drone pilot certificate
  • up to $5,000 for flying unregistered or unmarked drones
  • up to $5,000 for flying where you are not allowed
  • up to $15,000 for putting aircraft and people at risk
